NMMSS Application

As part of the “National Means-and-Merit Scholarship Scheme,” meritorious students from economically weaker sections are awarded scholarships. This is done in an effort to encourage students to continue their education and reduce the number of students who drop out of school after completing class VIII. Each year, one lakh new scholarships are awarded to students in class IX who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. Annually, the amount of the scholarship is equal to 12,000 Indian Rupees. Students in classes X through XII who attend educational institutions that are run by the states/ central government or local bodies, are eligible to have their existing scholarships increased or renewed.

On the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), you may find information regarding the National Means and Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), which is a platform that houses all of the numerous scholarship programmes that are available to students. After being awarded digitally through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) in compliance with Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) mode, the NMMSS scholarships are promptly transferred into the student bank accounts of those who were selected to receive them. The government is the sole entity that can provide financial support for this endeavour.

Students who are able to demonstrate that their annual family income from any and all sources does not exceed Rs. 3,50,000/- are qualified to apply for NMMSS scholarships. For the students to be eligible to take the selection test for the NMMSS scholarship, they need to have obtained at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade when they took their Class 7 exam (there is a 5% relaxation in this requirement for SC/ST students).

Previously, the government announced that the National Scholarship Portal’s NMMSS application window would close on November 15, 2022, as well as the 2022-2023 academic year deadline. There are two stages of verification for NMMSS applications: L1 is for Institute Nodal Officers (INO) and L2 is for District Nodal Officers (DNO). The deadlines for INO level (L1) and DNO level (L2) verification are November 30 and December 15, 2022, respectively. However, these deadlines were later extended.
